Makana Aloha
Makana Aloha is a new program created for the 44th ISTS Symposium to celebrate the relationships that bring our community together. This initiative offers participants a simple, heartfelt way to share appreciation with mentors, colleagues, and peers who have made a meaningful impact on their journey.
In English, makana aloha translates to “gift of love.” While aloha is often used as a greeting, it also expresses compassion, kindness, and respect. Makana means “gift,” and together the phrase reflects the spirit of giving as an expression of gratitude and admiration.
How the program works
Registered participants of the 44th ISTS Symposium may purchase a gift accompanied by a short note for another symposium registrant. The exchange of lei is a long-standing tradition in Hawaiʻi and throughout the Pacific Islands. Lei are shared to welcome, to celebrate, and to honor one another. Makana Aloha provides a meaningful way to acknowledge connection and community during the symposium.
Please note the chocolate macadamia nut candy contains milk, soy, and macadamia nuts. The candy is also produced in a factory that processes other tree nuts.
Available gift options:
Fresh orchid lei - USD $15
Kukui nut lei - USD $8
Chocolate madadamia nut candy - USD $3
